Be positive. But be real.

Many of us try to be a force for good to those around us. As an older brother once told me, “You can either be a thermometer or a thermostat.” in other words: you can react to the temperature in the room, or you can help to bring the temperature to an appropriate level. Knowing that our behavior affects others, we intentionally chose to see the upside of situations.

But there is a danger in this too. There have been multiple disconnected people in that have called me the Mayor, or asked if I was running for office. This bothers me. The implication is that I’m not being genuine for the purpose of self-promotion. The truth is, there is no real motive but to build my communities.

Being positive with a sense of gravitas has to be balanced with being real and accessible. Otherwise the positive influence we hope to have will be diminished as spin.

What has been your experience with building a strong community?

  1. I will try this again. I posted on another entry but it didn’t go through. ugh. have not been here for a while but just thought i’d check to see what is going on over here.

    1. is this suppose to be the place for family updates? is every part of our family represented on here? it would be nice to have one where everyone participates.

    2. i am willing to switch over to this site if it is a private and safe location. (meaning family members only have access to our posts)

    3. is it necessary to create an account? i see a place for “log in”

    4. it all seems so confusing, as all new things do. any advice and direction would be appreciated.

  2. Comments are moderated (which means i have to hit approve before they go on the site).

To post you need an account, which i’m glad to create. However, they are public. Think we can make them private; But everybody that wants to see private posts need an account.

  3. so it is not private as in “family only”?

  4. It can be. You just have to post it as private.
